As a photographer and a crew member for a major US airline, I have had the opportunity to see and photograph incredible sights over the oceans and continents for nearly 16 years.
It is obvious from 35,000 feet that borders, walls and divisions between peoples are concepts created by governments.
Travel by air, and aircraft themselves posess the peaceful potential to bring the nations of the world together.
I grew up in California, and was always in the sun, water and snow skiing and biking. In the 70's, we were unaware of the dangers of over-exposure to the sun. On December 24, 2003, I had the second of two successful surgeries to remove skin cancer.
It was Christmas Eve, and I looked through some of my old photographs and thought of family and friends. I scanned a couple and made Christmas Cards from them.
I was worried about finances, as I had been required to miss two months of work.
I began thinking of publishing my photography.
I thought of producing note cards initilally, and then decided that post cards would be more economical to produce and inventory.
I thought of the power of the internet, and felt that employing the potential there would not only be more economical, but also much more environmentally appropriate.
The idea to share my images on the internet, in the form of electronic post cards was formed. I searched for a web-designer, and was introduced to Nathan Buchanan, and Ikarian Productions which he created. He's a talented and ethical friend.
I met Jeanette with Card Services International on a trip to Honolulu. I am proud to include her as a friend and team member, with her company as my site's secure processing partner.
My friend Scott Haley bought me a book on 35MM photography. He went to New York City with me when I bought my first SLR camera and lenses. He wanted me to develop what he said was my 'natural talent'. He wanted a friend with whom he could enjoy photography.
We had a great time photographing archticture and people and landscape in Rome, Sicily and Russia. Scott loved sharing his work with friends, family and co-workers. His images are magnificent.
We often talked of ways to make our images available to others.
Scott recently left this 'plane' while doing what he loved. He was flying his airplane. I think of Scott often and miss him.
So, Scotty... I have begun, as I know you would have, to share my images. I have included a way for others to share their images as well. I hope that you are proud. This site is dedicated to your memory.
